We're excited to announce one of the most significant updates yet for Kotobee, packed with innovative features that are designed to enhance your experience. This release introduces our groundbreaking new product, Kotobee Narrator, alongside other powerful enhancements like Smart Explain AI, multiple LTI integrations, and improved security options.
Create Audiobooks with Kotobee Narrator
Our new product, Kotobee Narrator, allows authors and publishers to easily create audiobooks. All you need to do is simply import MP3 files for each chapter, organize and customize metadata, and finally, compile your audiobook. Once complete, your audiobook can be published in your library or shared independently and accessed through Kotobee Reader.
AI-Powered Smart Explain Feature
Allow your readers to take advantage of AI technology and look up useful information for any word or phrase they encounter within your ebook. This includes comprehensive definitions, background details, related concepts, and illustrative examples to enrich their understanding and engagement with the content. Please note that this advanced feature is currently available exclusively for ebooks stored within Kotobee Library and cloud ebooks only.
Two-Factor Authentication (Security OTP)
To further secure your account, we’ve enabled two-factor authentication (2FA). Now, you'll need both your serial number and a one-time password (OTP) sent to your email to log in. This adds a protective layer and ensures that a serial number alone is no longer sufficient to access your content (e.g. hosted ebooks and libraries).
Platform-Specific Single Sign-On Control
When enabling Single Sign-On (SSO) for your ebook or library, you can now choose specific platforms (e.g., Android, iOS, or Web) where the SSO option will be enabled.
Request Device Reset Option
If you’ve enabled Device DRM for your ebook, it means you have set a limit on the number of unique devices readers can use to access your ebook or library. Previously, users who exceeded the limit would simply receive an error message. Now, the error message includes a request link, allowing users to contact the library or ebook owner to request a device reset and gain access.
Add All Permissions (When Sharing)
When adding collaborators to your ebook or library, you can now grant all possible permissions with a single click instead of assigning them individually, making the process faster and more convenient.
Connect to Multiple LMS Platforms with LTI
For users of LTI 1.3, integrating your library with multiple LMS instances (e.g., multiple Moodle sites) is now possible. Previously, only a single Platform ID could be associated with your library. With this update, you can create several LTI instances, each with its own Platform ID. This allows for easy integration across different LMS platforms.
Disable the Context Menu (The Right-Click Option)
You now have the option to prevent users from right-clicking inside the ebook, thereby restricting access to options such as viewing the page source or saving images, adding an extra layer of content protection.
Added Book ID to Autocomplete Search
Previously in Kotobee Library, when assigning user permissions to view specific books or categories, you could only search by name. This could cause confusion when multiple books or categories have the same name. Now, to make selection easier, the ID is displayed alongside the name in the autocomplete list.
Improved Chapter Name Display
A new option was added to allow users to wrap long chapter names in the table of contents. If you choose this option, the chapter names will be added on multiple lines instead of being trimmed at the end, ensuring better readability and a cleaner presentation for the table of contents.
Better Category Name Formatting
A similar option was added to allow users to wrap long category names. When enabled, category names will appear on multiple lines instead of being cut off at the end of a single line.
Gallery Zoom Option
When adding interactive galleries and slideshows to your ebook, you can now include zoom buttons, which allow users to scale images for a closer look.
Library Banner Backgrounds
When adding banners to your libraries, you can now include a background solid color that extends to the left and right edges of the screen.
Restrict API Access with Serial and Access Keys
If you are using the Kotobee API, you now have more control over how the API is accessed: using your serial, an access key, or both. For enhanced security, it is recommended to use the access key and disable access with your serial. This precaution ensures better protection if the serial falls into the wrong hands. Additionally, the access key can be reset, whereas the serial cannot.
